Magellanic penguins spend most of their year at sea off the coast of Argentina, following fish populations as they shift with ocean temperatures. Every spring they return to the same coastal burrows in Patagonia to breed, sometimes finding their way back to the same partner year after year. Their migrations cover thousands of miles and the routes they take reveal a lot about the health of the South Atlantic ecosystem.
Each Fahlo Passage Plush includes a QR code. Scan it with the free Fahlo Animal Tracker app on any Android or Apple device and you'll be connected to a real Magellanic penguin to follow along its migration route off the coast of Argentina. You'll see the penguin's name and location updates throughout the season. Penguins are tracked via satellite tag, and tracking data may be live, delayed, or historical based on safety protocols set by Fahlo's conservation partners.
The Passage Plush is made in partnership with the Global Penguin Society, which works to protect Magellanic penguins and their nesting habitat through research, policy advocacy, and education programs in the communities nearest to nesting colonies. Their tracking data helps identify critical feeding areas and migration corridors that need protection. A portion of every purchase goes directly to support that work.
Magellanic penguins are listed as near-threatened, with populations affected by oil spills, overfishing of the fish they depend on, and climate-driven shifts in prey location that force adult birds to swim farther from their nests to find food. The Passage Plush puts you on the journey with them.
