Translated as "Elephant Science," the Gajaśāstra is an ancient treatise covering the care, training, and mythology of elephants, and the illustrations in this manuscript bring that world to life with extraordinary detail and color. Each of the 12 monthly pages features a full reproduction of artwork from the manuscript, ranging from mythological elephant scenes to depictions of elephants engaged in real-life activities, accompanied by informative text that places each image in its historical context.
