There are fewer than 20 wild red wolves left on Earth. All of them live in a small area of eastern North Carolina, making the red wolf the most endangered wolf species in the world and one of the most endangered mammals in North America. Their story is one of extinction, a recovery effort that brought them back, and an ongoing fight to keep them here.
Each Fahlo Scout Plush includes a QR code. Scan it with the free Fahlo Animal Tracker app on any Android or Apple device and you'll be connected to a red wolf to follow. Because the wild population is so small and vulnerable, the tracking experience for this plush uses representative historical data provided by Fahlo's conservation partners at the AZA SAFE Red Wolf Program to honor each wolf's story while protecting the safety of the remaining animals. Tracking does not harm the wolves and is designed to raise awareness for their recovery.
The Scout Plush is made in partnership with the AZA SAFE Red Wolf Program, which maintains healthy red wolf populations under human care, supports reintroduction efforts, and conducts research vital to the species' long-term survival. Red wolves are tracked using GPS radio collars and VHF collars that allow biologists to monitor their movements through the North Carolina terrain. Every purchase supports that mission directly.
The red wolf was declared extinct in the wild in 1980. A captive breeding program brought them back from the edge. Buying this plush is a direct investment in making sure that effort wasn't in vain.
