Designed by architect John Nash, and completed in 1823, it was constructed as a spreading tent in the Indian style. It includes lavish Chinoiserie embellishments of dragons, birds, flowers and mystical creatures with decorative elements of bamboo and artificial illumination. The decorations were executed to a high standard by Frederick Crace and Robert Jones. The King confessed that he cried for joy when he contemplated the Pavilion's splendours. Visitors today may well have a similar experience.
