BINDING

The binding of a calendar plays an important role in its usability and durability. We understand the importance of choosing the right binding for your needs. That's why we offer a wide range of binding options to choose from including saddle-stitched, wire-o binding, stapled binding, spiral binding, perfect binding, comb binding, case binding, book binding, adhesive binding and unbound calendars. Each option has its own unique features and benefits. So let's take a closer look at each one to help you make an informed decision about which type of calendar is right for you!

Saddle-Stitched (Stapled)

Saddle stitch binding, which we refer to as stapled binding on our website, is the most popular form of calendar binding and it looks great. With saddle stitch binding, your calendar will lay flat and stay open while you view it, making it easier to plan out your schedule. This type of binding involves placing two staples in the folded piece to secure the sheets together, just like catalogs and magazines. Saddle stitch binding is the perfect choice for calendars, ensuring that no matter what style of calendar you select, the end result will have a professional and sturdy binding.

Adhesive binding involves using an adhesive to secure individual leaves or pages together, creating a strong and durable spine. The adhesive is applied directly to the spine, ensuring that the pages are held firmly in place. Adhesive binding is a great option for calendars, as it allows for easy page-turning and ensures that the calendar stays together throughout its use. With adhesive binding, your calendar will have a clean and professional look while still being easy to use and enjoy all year round!

Calendar Buying Guide - Adhesive binding

Wire-o bound calendars will lay completely flat or wrap back around themselves, making them easy to view and use. The metal coil used in wire-o binding passes through a row of punched holes at the edge of the printed piece, ensuring a secure and durable binding that can withstand frequent use throughout the year. This type of binding can be placed on either the left or top side of the calendar depending on the design on the calendar. Wire-o binding is an excellent choice that will ensure your calendar lasts all year long!

Spiral Binding

With spiral binding, your calendar will lay flat or wrap back around itself, making it easy to view and use. The plastic continuous loop coil used in spiral binding passes through a row of punched holes at the edge of the printed piece in a spiral pattern, ensuring a secure and durable binding that can withstand frequent use throughout the year. This type of binding will be placed on either the left or top side of the calendar depending on the design of the calendar. Overall, if you're looking for a reliable and functional calendar, spiral binding is definitely worth considering!

Perfect Binding

Similar to the bookbinding used on phone books and paperback books, perfect binding involves gathering printed sheets into a book, one on top of the other. The edges of the book are then ground off and glued into a wrap-around cover before being trimmed to size, resulting in a square spine that looks attractive and professional. While perfect bound calendars do not lay flat like spiral-bound options, they still provide excellent durability and can withstand frequent use throughout the year.

Case Binding

This type of binding is similar to what you might find on hardcover books, using stitching and a three-piece assembly consisting of the front cover, spine, and back cover made of binder's board wrapped in cloth. The hard cover used in case binding provides added protection for your calendar compared to soft covers used in other binding methods. The cover is sometimes wrapped in book cloth, faux leather, or real leather. While case binding may not lay flat like spiral-bound calendars, it offers excellent durability and is perfect for creating high-quality calendars that will last throughout the year.

Book Binding

Saddle stitch binding is the most popular form of calendar binding and it looks great.

Comb Binding

Also known as Cerlox or Surelox binding, this method uses a cylindrical plastic shape with multiple curved tines along its length to form the calendar's spine. Each tine is pre-formed into a closed ring shape with tension that closes them back into a circular shape when released. To bind a calendar with comb binding, the curved tines are spread open and inserted through rectangular slots punched along the spinal edge of the cover and pages. Once released, the tension in the tines secures the covers and pages as a unit while still allowing them to turn freely. This method produces an attractive and durable product that is perfect for calendars.

HANGING YOUR CALENDAR
Calendar Buying Guide - Hanging your calendar

Ah, the age-old question: how to hang a calendar? Fear not, fellow planner enthusiasts, for we’ve got you covered! Here's a step-by-step guide to hanging your new calendar like a pro:

  1. Open your calendar and flip to the current month. Admire those crisp pages and gorgeous photos for a moment.
  2. Choose the perfect spot for your calendar. A flat surface like a wall or bulletin board works best (although if you’re feeling wacky, go ahead and stick it on your ceiling). Make sure it’s in a visible spot so you won’t forget about important dates.
  3. Hold up your calendar against the desired surface and use your non-dominant hand to keep it steady (or ask a friend to help if you're feeling fancy). With your other hand, grab a tack or nail that will fit through the small hole on top of the calendar.
    • If using a tack, align it with the hole and push it into the surface until it’s flush with the wall. You may need to use some elbow grease here - don't be afraid to show off those muscles!
    • If using a nail, hold up the calendar with one hand and hammer away with the other until it's almost all the way in. Leave about half an inch sticking out so you can hang up your masterpiece.
  4. If you’re mounting on a magnetic surface like a fridge or file cabinet, grab two strong magnets and place them at the top and bottom of your open calendar page (bonus points if they're shaped like cute animals).
Stand back and admire your work! Your new calendar is now securely hung up for all to see (and envy). Happy planning!
