About Adirondack Life Magazine
Founded in 1969, Adirondack Life Magazine has earned numerous national awards for the quality of its photography and design along with the depth of its editorial content. The magazine covers the six million acre Adirondack Park, found in New York and offers more wild country than Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Glacier National Parks combined. As protected landscape, this part has 3,000 lakes and thousands of miles of rivers and streams, extensive tracks of old-growth forests, and dozens of mountains with some alpine summits where rare arctic plants survive. In recent years, bald eagles, moose, and by some accounts, even mountain lions have reclaimed their original habitat. Adirondack Life magazine features several writers and photographers giving insight into the park. The yearly calendar publication is available along with other printed goods, home goods, and apparel.

The Adirondack Park region boasts lakes, rivers and streams, and a wide variety of habitats, including globally unique wetland types and old growth forests. The heart of the Adirondack Park is the Forest Preserve. Contained within the park is over 6 million acres. Though not a national park, it offers more wild country than Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Glacier National Parks combined. The state of New York owns approximately 43 percent, or roughly 2.6 million acres of land within the Park’s boundaries. The remaining private lands are devoted principally to forestry, agriculture, and open space recreation. The Adirondack Park is unique in its intricate mixture of public and private lands. About 130,000 people live here year round in its 101 towns and villages. The harmonious blend of private and public lands give the Adirondacks a diversity found nowhere else. A diversity of open space and recreational lands, of wildlife and flora, of mountains and meadows, and people of all walks of life. The inclusion of human communities makes the park one of the great experiments in conservation in the industrialized world. The more than 3,000 lakes and thousands of miles of rivers and streams are protected landscape. Extensive tracts of old-growth forest are destined to remain forever wild according to the state constitution. Dozens of mountains tower over 4,000 feet with alpine summits home to rare arctic plants. And, in recent years, bald eagles, moose, and, by some accounts, mountain lions have reclaimed their original habitat.
