More Info

Dale Chihuly is hailed as the most important artist working in the medium of glass and is known for his use of vibrant colors, dramatic compositions, and large-scale installations whose imaginative, organic forms continually inspire awe in viewers old and new alike. Building on a centuries-old team approach to glassblowing, Chihuly has applied his vision as an artist to create some of the most ground breaking glass sculptures in contemporary art. His works are considered to possess outstanding artistic merit in the field of blown glass, “moving it into the realm of large-scale sculpture.” Though the technical difficulties of working with glass forms are considerable, Chihuly uses it as the primary medium for installations and environmental artwork creating large scale art installations worldwide with permanent collections in the United States, Canada, England, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait. He has won numerous awards, and, in 1986, became one of only four Americans to be honored by a one-man exhibition at the Louvre in Paris. Deemed the modern-day Louis Comfort Tiffany, Dale Chihuly is celebrated for his blown-glass sculptures inspired by the natural world. Chihuly is co-founder of the Pilchuck Glass School outside Seattle, which draws students and teachers from around the globe.
