Sir John Lavery A leading member of the internationally renowned group of artists known as the Glasgow Boys, John Lavery (1856–1941) was born in Belfast but spent much of his life in Scotland. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and at the Académie Julian in Paris. In 1888, on the occasion of Queen Victoria’s state visit, Lavery was commissioned to paint her official portrait. Thus began a career as a society painter; Lavery was knighted in 1918 and elected to the Royal Academy in 1921. This calendar’s twelve striking paintings are from the collection of the Ulster Museum, National Museums Northern Ireland. All of Pomegranate's calendars are printed with soy-based inks on FSC® certified paper, which means the paper has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council™ and manufactured by an FSC certified printer.
